We sell traditionally reared, pedigree Shetland beef in packs of approximately 3.8kg. Each pack contains a mixture of steaks, stewing beef, top quality beef burgers, mince and link sausages.
We breed and raise Shetland cattle here at Dalmore. The Shetland is an ancient breed and was once common on the Shetland Isles as the traditional “crofter’s kye”, producing high quality milk and beef for crofting families. In more recent times, as lifestyles changed, the breed fell from fashion and is now listed as “At Risk” by the Rare Breed Survival Trust. By purchasing our beef, not only are you buying a quality local product, but you’re helping to preserve an important piece of Scotland’s social history.
Shetland beef is wonderful – tender and flavoursome, with excellent texture.
Our cattle are raised naturally on grass. Steers are slaughtered at around 24-28 months of age, off grass, at James Chapman Ltd (Shotts); the carcasses are then delivered to Minick of St Andrews to be hung for a minimum of 21 days before being butchered. The beef is presented as a selection of joints, steaks, stewing beef, top quality beef burgers, mince, and link sausages and is vacuum packed and labelled, ready for the freezer.
We ask for a deposit (non-refundable) of £15 per pack, payable at time of ordering. This will be deducted from the final invoice. The balance (typically around £30) will be payable when you collect your beef pack from us.
We will notify you of the collection arrangements nearer the time.
We also have small quantities of frozen beef available, while stocks last.
