Experience the joy of working with willow to create a beautiful round fruit bowl with a plaited border on this full-day course at Dalmore Croft. Jane Wilkinson of Special Branch Baskets will lead you through a unique crafting experience, using basket-makers’ weaves.
Your finished fruit bowl will be an object of beauty as well and durable and strong. The plaited border finishes the bowl in style, as well as lending additional strength. Whatever your level of experience, Jane will work with you at your own pace and tailor the course to suit you.
NB: the basket shown in the photographs is deeper than you will make on this course, illustrating the shape and border rather than the finished object itself.
Who is this course suitable for?
The course is suitable for beginners and improvers and no previous experience is required. The course requires a moderate degree of manual dexterity and is probably unsuitable for under 12s. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.
What’s included and what to bring
Jane will provide all the materials and tools, but do bring your own secateurs if you have them.
We will be inside all day (unless the weather is very good) and the course is moderately physical. Please bring gloves if you like to use them.
The price includes tea, coffee and home-baking morning and afternoon, and lunch, prepared using ingredients mostly grown and produced at Dalmore. We can cater for vegetarians and vegans – please indicate on the booking form if you have any dietary requirements.
What will you get from the day?
Apart from a beautiful, practical hand-crafted object, throughout the day Jane will share her extensive knowledge about willow and how to work with it, including how to select suitable materials, the basics of storing and soaking willow, and about how willow grows.
